the suspense is finally over~ eka mairina is the new winner of anugerah 2003!!! congratulations, eka! (as if she'll ever read this blog) *hurrah!* there is some justice in this world afterall!! ;)
here's a brief rundown of last nite's performances by our eight finalists;
norkhail - hazami's tabah: Even guest judge syafinaz praised his vocal tone & i must admit, i've been kinda attracted to it too eversince i heard it during the first round of this competition. his voice is reminiscent of m'sian singer Rem (of selingkar kasih fame); there's a smooth, husky quality to it which made me think of a ferrari or porche. hehe. however, he must be such a nervous wreck last nite cuz i cud practically see his arm trembling while he was holding his mic during the whole performance.. Awww.. poor thing. Anyway, i dont think he had much stage presence (& too many distracting hand gestures) and he cud have picked a better song; this song is too new & unfamiliar...
nurhazlinah - erra fazira's gemilang: I liked her voice eversince she made it past the quarter finals. though not strong in the looks department (she's abit bucktoothed), her voice can be quite impressive when given the right material. (she was wonderful during the 60's & 70's themed nights) However, she was more overdressed than an evening wear barbiedoll last nite.. and the song choice was awful~ it didnt suit her voice at all!
shariff sah - hazami's tekad: completely destroyed a song which i love so much. this LOAthsome, vile & fat creature shud be locked up in chains & thrown into the deepest, darkest dungeon!! *GRRrrrrr*
fairuz - hasnol's laguku untukmu: i've already fallen in lurve wif this retro ballad but fairuz shudnt have sang it; doesnt suit his voice. though i'm sure its not his fault that his face resembles that of a pig, he shud be hanged becuz of his intolerable facial contortions. oh wait, shariff sah shud be hanged too... yeah.. that's rite... Hang them both!!!!!
4th position joehaidi - jamal abdillah's di sudut kamar hatiku: gotta hand it to syafinaz; she's definitely one of the few judges invited in this competition who delivered the most productive criticisms. moreover, joe picked a good song to showcase his "manly" voice & persona; at times, he sounds so much like jamal abdillah, its eerie! too bad he's not as cool as fuad.. or else he might have won himself a legion of screaming girly fans too...
3rd position nurhairiah - liza hanim's andainya aku bersuara: committed the atrocity of wearing blue contacts to match her blue dress. Was complimented fer sounding like a liza hanim & siti nurhaliza hybrid... LIKE i DONT think SO~ what an insult to the latter two artistes. nurhairiah's voice, in my opinion, is blander than newater & half of the time, i was afraid she might hyperventilate after trying to reach those high notes... absolutely undeserving of third place. however, wif her photogenic looks, she's bound to garner a contract wif suria & will probably headline anak metropolitan II or sumthing...
2nd position Fuad - rahim maarof's usang: i do NOT like this man becuz 1) his voice sounds like a chicken being strangled 2) it suits a limited genre i.e. mly rock Only.... (eeewww) 3) he looks like a drug addict 4) he resembles my bro-in-law. enuff said!
1st eka mairina - ruth sahanaya's mengertilah kasih: SPECTACULAR performance! ABsolutely FabUlous!!!! after weeks of getting uber high votes that threaten to eliminate her from the competition, she eventually obtained around a thousandplus votes frm her multitude of fans last nite... that's around two hundred more than mr fuad's votes! dressed in a chic white gown wif enuff material to make new hari raya curtains for my living room, eka oozed sophisticated charm & a mesmerizing aura befitting of a Diva despite her bulging tummy. whenever she let loose those powerful vocals, i was so afraid she might suddenly go into contractions and have her baby right there & then on national television! all i hope for now is that eka will not suffer the fate of past anugerah winners: i.e. forever doomed to appear on local tv only once in a blue moon such as to sing hari raya songs during aidilfitri concerts... ;p
i lurved the comedy skit by faizal ishak, ishak ahmad & bobo... it's a wonderfully hilarious yet realistic portrayal of how ugly malay audiences cud be. these three men are damn funny! *sigh* wifout anugerah, tuesday nights will never be the same again... however, this also means that i wont have to grimace at suhaimi's lame jokes & suhaila's bad hosting anymore... LOL
PS: please note that i have tried my best to give an unbiased judgment wherever possible. if i've caused grievous emotional hurt to any reader who have read this entry.. pls accept my humble apologies~! ;p (but who told u to read it in the first place??!!)
