first & foremost, a happy deepavali to all my blogmates... may the light be wif u~! but actually, there doesnt seem to be anything special about the day to me. it's a public holiday? so what???
was out yesterday wif sum of my cronies... went down to cityhall & had our dinner at the new sakura joint beside longjohnsilver. what can i say? it's juz typical sakura fare, nuthing really noteworthy about it & i had my staple plate of fried beef kway teow wif longan drink (*yummy!*). however, the waiters were all a bunch of mly minahs. let me amend that; Waitresses! & there was this one minah at the cashier counter whose sly smile gave me the creeps~! *shudders* or maybe it was juz the vibes given out by the pink tshirt i was wearing!!! hehe.. it's the FIRST i've ever had but i kinda like it! nevertheless, am not really planning on wearing pink again fer awhile now... if not, i might juz grow sick of it! LOL. Bowled at marina after dinner but i think it was a terrible night fer me; i was trying out this 'four-step' theory when i slipped on the lane & fell flat on my face! well, almost anyway.. thank god i was too stunned to notice if my untimely performance elicited much laughter & mirth amidst the bystanders. not only was my ego bruised last nite, i was pretty dismayed too becuz the impact of my fall broke the strap of my watch... DAMN! what a hapless fool i was!! more so than usual... ;(
met an old nus friend of mine at the bowling alley & we had quite a long chat while he waited fer his turns on the lane. he was such good company during some of my modules throughout my nus years but then i never got to know him any better cos he's really such a square actually... and get this; he's already gotten himself a flat (stil unrenovated) & plans to get married to his equally square sec school sweetheart next year!!! ohmygod, i really admire his zeal, man. i'm so envious; he's so clear-headed about what he wants out of life & how to achieve it. for a moment, it made me question & reflect upon my own pitiful existence... well, after THAT conversation, i dont think he's such a square afterall.. juz abit geeky & outmodish perhaps. LOL. still, i'm in AWE of people like him. On top of that, he's a darn good Bowler!!! his average score fer three games in a row was like 140-150 & anything less, he confided, wud be considered out-of-form.. bloordy hell~~!
got back unexpectedly late though. by the time my head finally rested on my pillow, it was slightly after 5am... and i woke up around noon today & rushed fer friday prayers... The mosque was super PACKED. but what can one expect on a public holiday anyway? seriously, i dont see the point of rebuilding assyakirin if the new premises cannot accomodate the usual friday congregation... i mean, the mosque authorities were saying how they wanted to make full use of the land space & all but evidently, the new mosque, though muti-storey, didnt really fully utilize the designated landspace too. fer instance, there's an open, unused courtyard (which in my opinion, only served a decorative purpose) around half the size of a basketball court next to the praying hall on the groundfloor... even the praying halls themselves were much smaller in size than what the old mosque previously had... ohwell, i did manage to get a proper spot though & it was comfortably roomy too; alhamdulillah! ;)
when i got back, i did nuthing productive (contrary to what i had resolved to do when i woke up this morning ;p ) but rolled around on my bed listening to mp3s and rolled around on the living room couch while watchin tv. i DId however, manage to watch the copy of MEMENTO which i dwnloaded like weeks ago... & it was a worthwhile watch too. directed by christopher nolan, (who shot to fame because of this movie, his sophomore effort), this is the story of a man who has lost the ability to make "new" memories becuz of an incident that also killed his wife. thus, he embarks on a quest to avenge his wife's murder armed wif nuthin else save a polaroid camera, a bunch of freaky bodytattoos & a wry sense of humor. because of his 'condition', he is only able to live his life in short time periods, wif no knowledge of what had happened only minutes before.. and the director takes this exploration of time & memory a step further by makin the movie run in retrograde sequence; i.e goin backwards in ten-minute segments which, although perplexing at first, is rather interesting once u've gotten the hang of it... the plot twists & turns unpredictably, making this a thrilling & intriguing ride fer the audience. moreover, virtuoso performances frm the enigmatic leads, guy pearce, john pontoliano & carrie-ann moss (who are the only characters we see much of thru'out the movie anyway) will keep you glued to the screen. Although this show may be a tad too convoluted fer some people who like their movies to be of the straightforward variety, i think repeated viewing (which is almost essential if u want a better grasp of the story) may juz make MEMENTO grow on you... hence, my rating - 4/5stars!!!

"I have to believe in a world outside my own mind. I have to believe that my actions still have meaning, even if I can't remember them. I have to believe that when my eyes are closed, the world's still there. Do I believe the world's still there? Is it still out there? ... Yeah. We all need mirrors to remind ourselves of who we are. I'm no different," - Leonard Shelby (guy pearce).
