i must confess that i'm lousy at keeping my resolutions. case in point, it's been almost a week since i made a proper blog entry.. and this comes after i've resolved (albeit to myself) a couple of mths ago to blog regularly & consistently. *sigh* i'm sooo weak-willed! :P Even 'til now, i've yet to paint my room and my mom has started harrassing me about it already. so much fer my lofty ambitions... ;p
i have something else to confess; i've been down to geylang TWice and most probably will go down again at least a couple more times before this ramadhan is over. Shocking isnt it?? and i'm the one who has an antipathy fer noisy crowds especially those that consist of makciks, pakciks, mats & minahs of all ages & frm all walks of life. well, i have always been of the opinion that no raya season is really complete wifout that prerequisite sidetrip to the renowned & almost legendary hotspot fer all moslems in s'pore (whether they had unfalteringly fasted or not); i.e. geylang serai!!! actually, there's really nothing spectacularly different abt geylang frm year to year; from the tentages that stretch endlessly frm tanjong katong complex to the joo chiat area, filled to the brim with a hodgepodge of colorful bazaar stalls, to the garish, kampong-inspired lights that adorn the side-walk trees & overhead bridges... its the same thing this year too. however, i didnt let THat stop me frm goin...
last thursday evening, i went down with rik, edward, chacha & zan. it wasnt really jam-packed yet at that time & thus it was perfect fer walking around juz to get a feel of the place. Zan had to leave fer work by sixpm so the rest of us had our iftar at the indian foodjoint across the road frm the mcdonald's near joo chiat. on our way there, i had a culture-shock; seated inside mcdonald's itself were dozens of malays (mostly youths) happily feasting away on their mcChickens, bigmacs & whatnots. What was most horrifying about this spectacle was that it was a good half an hour or more before the allocated iftar time! i felt so disgusted~ even if they had good reasons not to fast (which i sincerely doubt so), i'm sure they could at least be more discreet about it, couldnt they?? oh well.. anyhow, i had a most unsavory meal (actually i've always had a disinclination for indian food) but the sinful quantity of dengdeng which i consumed most unapologetically afterwards more than made up for it. Yep.. the ONE thing i luurrve about geylang & keeps me coming back for more is the multitude of dengdeng stalls found there! ~ i confess; i'm a dengdeng addict!! LOL. Later on in the night, we chilled out at coffee bean (at the building opposite payalebar mrt stn; what is it called again????) & had a wonderful time wif the guys doing nuthing else save engaging in mindless chitchat. It was like back in the good old days (eons ago!) when there was juz me, chacha, edward & riko. how nostalgic! hehehe
on saturday, me and two other cronies, on impulse, decided to drop by geylang to see what it's like down there on a weekend night... To a certain extent, i detest impulsive decisions cuz' i'm very liable to have regrets later.. And i Did almost regret that night (key-word; almost!) Crowded? but Of Course... it was most uncomfortable & on top of that, i missed the last bus 30 which goes down to my place, but chacha & i didnt realise this 'til after an hour of waiting like goons at the haig road food centre bustop. Well, thankfully, we werent the only goons as there were a bunch of people who were waiting for buses too... it was obvious they were westies like us. by one am, almost evryone gave up waiting & decided either to flag a cab or take the token nightrider service that wud bring us to town (where we wud have to switch to NR5). We chose the latter and as a result, by the time i finally set foot in my humble flat, it was 330am. very exhausting... but at least i've learnt a very valuable lesson that night; when in geylang, do NOT wait until last possible second to catch late night bus home ESpecially if u're a westie. ;-)
my mom & sis are planning fer a geylang shopping trip this coming thursday. obviously, they will be hauling my nieces along wif them and no prizes fer guessing who has to follow them to be the babysitter & luggage-man fer the day. yep.. it's yours truly... ;-( This happens evry year, of course. it's almost like destiny... LOL But nevermind, maybe something good will come out of it. hmmm.. perhaps i'll ask my mom to buy me some dengdeng.. and might as well some otak2 too...
i think i'll clean-up my room abit today. it's about time i started being more productive; godknows What i've been doin wif my time all this while... ;-p
PS: i wrote "letter to a departed" as an ode to my late father. yesterday marked the third-year anniversary of his death. may his soul rest in peace. God bless.
