for those of you who have been to the blogger homepage, you would probably have come across the results for the winners of UK's Guardian Unlimited's British Blog Awards. Under the best design category, The Big Smoker won hands down while in the best written segment, belle de jour charmed judges wif her entries. There was even a category for under 18s and max hunton's A teenager blogs was the winner here...

compare all this, however, wif the Asia Weblog Awards which is a world's first to recognize the quality of weblogs by asians or bloggers in asian countries (i came across the link while surfing through blogskins.com). Naturally, i was very thrilled when i learnt about such a competition for asian bloggers & even nominated myself in the best singapore blog category. (yeah.. i'm proud of my blog, so??? ;p ) However, after looking through some of the top contenders in this section, i realized how SUPERFICIAL the whole thing was...

In the top three position were;
1. Xiaxue wif 234 votes
2. mr brown wif 183 votes
3. wishful thinking wif 105 votes.

i think mr brown's blog is pretty neat but i have certainly become a xiaxue hater. Call me biased, but hers is definitely the most shallow & gaudy blog i've ever come across in ages and i can only wonder how she could garner so many votes... probably she has a legion of like-minded fans and i can only shudder at such an overwhelming number of blog-readers wif such apalling taste... and to think she'd be getting the title of best singapore blog??? I'm almost ashamed to call myself singaporean...

Certainly, there isnt a lack of competent contenders (for some of the nominated blogs, in my honest opinion, were truly awesome) but there is most certainly a lack of audience objectivity & discretion. how sad.
