46th Grammy Awards... Predictions~!
Sunday, February 08, 2004

After janet jackson's indecent exposure at the recent Superbowl halftime show (assisted by a supposedly ignorant justin timberlake), she had reportedly been retracted from the coming grammys' list of award presenters. However, i dont see how this will affect the grammys... in my honest opinion, JUz go get another presenter lah~!! In all likelihood, her breast-baring stunt was probability a cheap attempt to garner publicity for her upcoming new album & single. What a pity that even someone as experienced in the music industry as janet wud stoop to such lows to sell records. HOwever, having said all that, perhaps the nipple-ring industry had better thank her for the recent upsurge in sales of the aforesaid product.. and for someone who's approaching forty in a couple of years' time, janet's right breast seems pretty much in good shape... LOL.

Enuff of this nonsense!!! more importantly, the grammys will be held sunday night in the US (which means it's a monday morning live telecast on tcs5 in singapore) & speculations are already rife on the internet over who'd garner the most number of grammy awards. Hence, my bloggy wud be oh-so-incomplete without my very own list of grammy predictions (which is long overdue anyway) :-

Altogether, there're a grand total of 104 categories in 30 fields but of course i'd limit my speculations to the General & Pop fields...

1. Record Of The Year
Crazy In Love - Beyonce Featuring Jay-Z
Where Is The Love - The Black Eyed Peas & Justin Timberlake
Clocks - Coldplay
Lose Yourself - Eminem
Hey Ya! - OutKast

Probably evryone in this category have won grammys in other fields in previous years wif the exception of the Black eyed peas & justin timberlake (beyonce won while being part of Destiny's child) but where is the love is certainly one of the top records of the year. Beyonce's crazy in love is a cool & sexy dance-jingle but i dont think it's a record of the year material so that rules her out.. that leaves Coldplay, Eminem & Outkast but eminem's record is soooo old compared wif the others. Anyhow, i lurrrve evry track here except eminem's lose yrself... ;p
preferred winner: Where Is The Love - The Black Eyed Peas & Justin Timberlake (for being the most politically correct & most infectiously "pop")
most probable winner: Lose Yourself - Eminem (so far, the grammys seem to lurve this guy.. dont know why... )

2. Album Of The Year
Under Construction - Missy Elliott
Fallen - Evanescence
Speakerboxxx/The Love Below - OutKast
Justified - Justin Timberlake
Elephant - The White Stripes

it's mighty unlikely that the white stripes will get this cuz they're not as well-known as the others.. JUstin is an unlikely choice too (cuz he's just too... erm.. justin?? LOL ) but then it's a tough choice between the other three...
preferred winner: either Under Construction - Missy Elliott or Fallen - Evanescence for sheer talent in the genres that they're in...
most probable winner: either one of the above...

3. Song Of The Year
Beautiful - Linda Perry, songwriter (Christina Aguilera)
Dance With My Father - Richard Marx & Luther Vandross, songwriters (Luther Vandross)
I'm With You - Avril Lavigne & The Matrix, songwriters (Avril Lavigne)
Keep Me In Your Heart - Jorge Calderón & Warren Zevon, songwriters (Warren Zevon)
Lose Yourself - J. Bass, M. Mathers & L. Resto, songwriters (Eminem)

that Avril lavigne is even nominated here is i think, simply outrageous~! angsty teenage pop queens aside, warren zevon's song is certainly the most haunting probably because of his demise due to terminal cancer last september. linda perry's stunningly simple yet beautiful beautiful deserves this nom as much as luther vandross' pensive yet strangely upbeat dance wif my father.
preferred winner: Beautiful - Linda Perry, songwriter (Christina Aguilera)
most probable winner: either Warren Zevon or Luther Vandross... Personal yet understated performances from both of them sets them apart frm the other mainstream nominees in this category.

4. Best New Artist
Evanescence
50 Cent
Fountains Of Wayne
Heather Headley
Sean Paul

It's ridiculous that fountains of wayne is nominated here; they've been around for around three years already. Heather headley may be a tony-award winning artiste but her works have so far been pretty much elusive on radio. If sean paul wins this, it would be an absolute mockery of the grammy awards... :p
preferred winner: Evanescence; i'm in lurve wif amy lee's mournful vocals)
most probable winner: 50 Cent; he's had a phenomenal year wif a string of hits.. maybe it's time he gets recognized for all his work.

5. Best Female Pop Vocal Performance
Beautiful - Christina Aguilera
Miss Independent - Kelly Clarkson
White Flag - Dido
I'm With You - Avril Lavigne
Fallen - Sarah McLachlan

i'd loathe to see kelly clarkson or avril lavigne winning this one. they're such commerciallized teen-fodder~! sarah's new single fallen isnt that impressive whereas christina's bad-girl image might just make her lose out to the rest. dido, in a strong, brand new single shows she's no one-hit wonder and might juz bag this award...
preferred winner: Beautiful - Christina Aguilera; what can i say?? i'm a FAN! ;)
most probable winner: White Flag - Dido

6. Best Male Pop Vocal Performance
Any Road - George Harrison
Ain't No Mountain High Enough - Michael McDonald
Send Your Love - Sting
Cry Me A River - Justin Timberlake
Keep Me In Your Heart - Warren Zevon

michael mcdonald's unspectacular remake shouldnt even be nominated here. where's jason mraz or john mayer?? (and where's clay aiken??? LOL ) nonetheless, with two respected, yet deceased nominees competiting too, how can any of the other nominees stand a chance?
preferred winner: Keep Me In Your Heart - Warren Zevon; there's juz sumthing about this song which is very poignant...
most probable winner: the late ex-beatle george harrison might get this... he was an ex-beatle afterall~!

7. Best Pop Vocal Album
Stripped - Christina Aguilera
Brainwashed - George Harrison
Bare - Annie Lennox
Motown - Michael McDonald
Justified - Justin Timberlake

it wud be uterly splendid if christina wins this category becuz her album is juz awesome.. but she's up against stiff competition in the form of dead ex-beatle George Harrison & fellow ex-mouseketeer justin timberlake's successful debut, justified. the ultra-talented annie lennox deserves a grammy nom but considering how few pple are even aware of her new stuff, she's probably going to be overlooked. michael mcdonald?? - not even worth mentioning... ;p
preferred winner: Stripped - Christina Aguilera
most probable winner: Brainwashed or Justified. Most probably the former...

and there you have it folks~ my own grammy forecasts! let's see how many of them are accurate... ;)
