here are the categories which i predicted...
1. Record Of The Year
winner: Clocks - Coldplay
i'm surprised that Coldplay got this becuz clocks is quite an old record off an album which is almost two years old. Nevertheless, its an awesome track which i can never get sick of; i'm perfectly happy that they won this.
2. Album Of The Year
winner: Speakerboxxx/The Love Below - OutKast
another complete surprise. first off, since they already won for best rap album, i thought the award for this highly competitive category would go to someone else. however, after seeing their ultra-cute number hey ya being performed onstage, i thought maybe they deserved this afterall...
3. Song Of The Year
winner: Dance With My Father - Richard Marx & Luther Vandross, songwriters (Luther Vandross)
hurrah! i scored this one~!! the moment is made even more poignant because of luther's absence (he's wheelchair bound eversince his stroke last april) and richard marx made a moving speech in tribute to luther's talents. it's such a pity that celine dion's performance was marred by a faulty sound system... i think it could have been perfect otherwise.
4. Best New Artist
winner: Evanescence
i'm glad that evanescence won this actually but rather sad too cuz 50 cent didnt win anything at all... haha.. tough luck i guess. Amy lee was in true gothic form in her ripped-to-shreds gown; she could have been mistaken for a member of the Addams' family. LOL... And she looks soooo hauntingly beautiful...
5. Best Female Pop Vocal Performance
winner: Beautiful - Christina Aguilera
i didnt get this one right but i would have done cartwheels in bliss if i could when i heard xtina's name being announced. Her live rendition of beautiful wasnt that great here but the gospel choir & smokey stage setup gives the performance a certain raw edge. dressed in a suit, xtina looked pretty darn impressive & evrything wud have been perfect if not for her super-damaged crowning glory. seriously, she should hire a hair-nutritionist. (is there such a thing??)
6. Best Male Pop Vocal Performance
winner: Cry Me A River - Justin Timberlake
now how the hell did he win this?? (*scratches head in disbelief*)
7. Best Pop Vocal Album
winner: Justified - Justin Timberlake
this was pretty much predictable but justin's new scruffy image is quite a turn-off. he wud have looked like some homeless vagabond if it werent for his fancy dressing. ;p Oh well, evrybody's gotta grow up, rite??
Beyonce may not have won anything from the top categories but she did sweep up FIve awards out of 8 nominations in RnB-related categories thus putting her on par wif norah jones' 5 grammy wins last year. Her diva-licious rendition of dangerously in love was abit draggy but it was excellently accomplished; complete wif roosting white dove at the end. however, i found her performance wif Prince a tad disturbing.. dont know why leh.
All in all, this could have been one of the best grammy awards ever but it was sadly marred by a temperamental sound system & a stage which looked waaaay too small for a ceremony of this magnitude. but to end on a more positive note, i must concede that i lurrve Queen latifah's hosting! ;-)
