the next group of 8 in this season's american idol consists of some weird personas but i'll disclose them only as we go along... wif that said, no fever or throbbing headache is gonna prevent me from watching this eclectic bunch of young upstarts~!
First up, Matthew Rogers' what you won't do for love is nice & pleasant but there's nothing really special here & we all know matthew can do so much better than this. (and i'm actually echoing the judges' opinions too!) well, matthew wasnt happy at all wif the bad comments & his violent remark to bash simon's face (or sumthing to that effect) was abit ungracious, i think. anyway, matthew looks more like a football player than american idol material despite his impressive vocal chops. Butch-looking Briana Ramirez-rial was up next and her rendition of Norah Jones' dont know why was elegantly executed despite her looking more like a rocker-chick than a jazz-queen. i didnt expect briana to have such a honey-tinged vocal tone but then i cant envision her as being part of the final ten or twelve.. she desperately needs a makeover first! ;p The younger of the Roman brothers, Noel, performed Nsync's this i promise you but i must admit, he was the most horrible of the lot. The judges hated it... poor Noel... Fourth-in-line Kara Master did not have much luck either; her i'm outta love was totally bland & uninteresting. well, kara may resemble sex in the city's sarah jessica parker but she's even kookier looking (if u get what i mean). seriously, the problem wif all these pple is that they've chosen the wrong song for this competition... *bleagh
Lisa Leuschner may be a little on the plump side but her sweet thing was certainly the best performance so far. in my opinion, she looked like a younger version of toni collete but her vocals remind me of a less mature version of faith hill (or sumthing like that). Lisa has stage presence too... not bad at all. Jesus Roman's back at one was nothing short of a travesty of brian mcknight's original & certainly, last season's finalist, ricky smith, can perform this song wif far greater credibility... so THAT settles it then; the most anticipated battle of the brothers has come to naught~! it was all just a publicity stunt.. *haiz. well, the roman brothers look like a bunch of latin gangsters anyway.. can u imagine a mafia-themed american idol?? LOL... Anyhow, 18-year old hawaiian Camile Velasco was the judges' favorite for the night & it isnt hard to see why. She's got a very original & attractive vocal color and her one last cry may not be that impressive but it exuded a heart-wrenching honesty not seen in the other performances. it was obvious that Camile was all nerves that night but i think this gerl has lots of potential... all hail the next lauryn hill~!! ;-p Our final contestant, Marisa Joy, came out and belted a solid some kind of wonderful & surprisingly, she was the only one in the group who got the audience to actually clap hands in tune to her song. how cool.. nevertheless, i cant decide if she's goin for rocker-chick or country-chick image & her crouching pose whilst singing was abit odd... hmmmm..
overall, this group was certainly much worse than last week's group & bad song choice seemed to be the most common affliction for the day. i think camile velasco, lisa leuschner & marisa joy are the best performers but matthew rogers may make it too... however, when all is said and done, my bets are on camile and i dont care much who else makes it through... but it'll be nice if lisa gets it because i'd like to see some justice in this world... :P
