I'm astonished that what I secretly wished for last night came true; George Huff got booted off AI instead of the more deserving, Jasmine Trias. I think the basic fact that she is becoming one hot babe (sizzling hot, I might add!) must have something to do wif it.. hehe. Still, I'm kind of sad that my poor Georgie had to go; he had come a long way from the moustached, geeky & smiley fellow wif gangly limbs to the non-moustached, geeky & less-smiley fellow wif gangly limbs which he is today. ;P
First to perform was Diana Degarmo with Someone To Watch Over Me and Get Happy. The former song was a slow torch number which she did quite well (though not excellent) but it was in her second song that she really shone... Diana is really a nice gerl with a big voice but seriously, I cant see her winning this competition. And by golly, she's looking SO chunky nowadays~!!
Its such a pity that George Huff was given the boot because I really loved his renditions of Cheek To Cheek and It's A Wonderful World... The performances were delivered in a very straightforward manner (sans trills and vocal gymnastics) but I kind of felt the good old Georgie "spirit" creeping back into them; something which I had been missing for the last couple of weeks.
LaToya London simply brought the house down with her swinging versions of Too Close For Comfort and Don't Rain On My Parade. I felt that she took a huge risk by not performing a slower number for her second song but then again, both performances really rocked~! She's DA Bomb, dawg~!!!!
It's funny to see Jasmine Trias wearing her jeans (replete with cheapo big chains hanging on them) when evryone else is dressing up for big band. Anyway, her The Way You Look Tonight was pretty good but somehow I wasnt feeling her Almost Like Being In Love. Poor Jassy runs out of breath so easily though and there was this one part in the latter where she messed up the notes abit. Other than that, she's such a pretty little thing actually. hmmm.. she resembles the babelicious Kelly Hu abit, dontcha think so?? ;p
Fantasia Barrino was last to perform but whether the producers had saved the best for last was highly debatable. Her Crazy Little Thing Called Love and What Are You Doing The Rest Of Your Life were originally not done big band style (they were by Queen and Barbra Streisand respectively) yet she still managed to pull them off quite credibly. On the downside, her performances lacked a certain wow factor which Latoya had demonstrated earlier on. Nevertheless, I feel that Fantasia's had more edge to them; or maybe I'm just besotted with her right now... hhehe.
SO that's it people.. the top 5 for this week. ISnt it such a waste that John Stevens' not around? Big band is right up his alley... With him and Georgie gone, the top four are all female. Maybe they could do a Charlie Angels spoof for next week's Ford commercial. wouldnt that be something?? LOL
