Here I am, at my trusty old keyboard, typing away like nobody's business whilst occasionally sipping at my mug of hot milo. Yes, it's a warm and humid night but I dont like to drink something cold especially during the hour prior to sleep. I'm abit peculiar but aren't we all? ;)
I havent been keeping up with current affairs but watching the news bulletin earlier this evening reminded me why I'm not such a big fan of the news; it's just too depressing. Another handful of people had been killed in a suicide bombing attack in Iraq. On top of the beheading of an American last week, and the disclosure of the abuse of Iraqi prisoners at the now infamous Abu Ghraib prison in Baghdad, it seems that nothing pleasant could ever come from the US occupation of Iraq.
On the local front, things arent so cheery either. A 39-year old Indian woman was hacked to death with a chopper this morning by her taxi driver husband, right in front of her workplace in Tuas. He fled from the scene soon after but gave himself up to the police around nine hours later. The slashing was apparently witnessed by some other workers who were too stunned (and afraid) to do anything. talk about Monday blues....
These cruel and inhumane acts boggle the mind because, when you really think about it, the people involved arent that different from the average joe. I'm sure they could differentiate between right and wrong, what's ethical and what's not. Nobody in his right mind would carry a chopper with him for a meetup with his wife, without any ill-intentions in the first place. Or make people under his charge perform derogatory acts in the nude, just for his own amusement. But these things did happen and there doesnt seem to be an easy explanation why they occurred. What might have transpired in their minds, that blinded all powers of reasoning and logic?? perhaps the answer lies in the strength of human emotion; hate and prejudice are simple enough feelings to understand but they can manifest in many (ugly and horrible) ways.
Humans. they're such funny creatures.
