The recent worksite collapse at Ayer Rajah killed two men (a Bangladeshi worker and a Singaporean supervisor) and injured 29 others. While in itself not really a tragic calamity of epic proportions, it was however, still quite horrific due to the fact that it occurred only a week after the nicoll highway collapse. The authorities were quick to point out that these two events were isolated incidents to allay fears of the public concerning the viability of the Circle Line. A friend of the deceased foreman, told reporters, "He (the deceased) was supposed to have left at noon. The collapse occurred at about 12.35pm. If he had left on time, he would have been alive."
