anugerah episode 2

I'm still not warming up to the new season of Anugerah... Whilst the easy banter between hosts Suhaila Salam and Adi Rahman are only mildly entertaining at best, they do tend to get on my nerves by the show's end. Moreover, out of the eighteen contestants vying for the qualifying fourteen spots tonight, only a (pathetic) handful possessed the charisma and voice which I thought, distinguished them from the rest of the pack. In other words... banyak yang S.S (shiok-sendiri) tapi tak power~

Well, here's my two-cents worth of the performances which caught my eye (and ears): Osman Kadir's Bunga Pujaan was very dramatic vocally and visually but seriously, he looks abit like a troll. Semi-finalists from last year's competition, Nurulhuda and Hermi Ali may have had image make-overs but I wish they had been more prudent with their song choices. Singing Kembali and Bunga-Bunga Cinta respectively, I feel that given the right song, they would have done much, much better. Ultimately though, they do have rather competent voices and carried their songs quite well despite my aforesaid grudges. Rin Wahab's Jika Begini had alot of chutzpah and so did Siti Khadijah's commendable Janji which was the token dangdut number for the evening. Two popular songs, Menghitung Hari and Lilitan Asmara were thankfully, pretty credibly performed; the former by an unapologetic Juwita (whose name was omitted by Adi Rahman prior to her performance) and the latter by a very sassy-looking Farah sumbody. Unfortunately, none of the male contestants seemed up to the mark although a number did make me raise my eyebrows by an inch or two with their outlandish.. erm... appearance.. ;p

In the songwriting category, Jajai & Zaidy Nandir's creation, Andai, and BIGG's Cermin won places in the finals but essentially, this week's original song compositions (in my humble opinion, of course) seemed rather dull and uninspired. I think it would have been better if more established singers were at hand to interpret the contending songs... And why isnt there any female songwriters/singers featured in this category anyway???

The guest artiste for the evening was last year's runner-up, Fuad Rahman, performing goodness-knows what song from goodness-knows where. OKie.. I must admit it wasnt THAT bad and he was in pretty fine voice but I wish he had done something with more OOhhmmpphh!! Furthermore, I think I much prefer him in his trademark sunglasses... the better to hide his squinty eyes... muahahaha~!

Probably, I dont mean half of the things I say in this entry but then I'm not entirely a sane person tonight. Is there a full moon outside or something~??
