the weekend - part one

had such an exhausting weekend. Seems like a lot of stuff happened and I just don't know where to start, but here goes...

attended my niece's harmonica concert at the DBS auditorium on saturday evening. It was harmonica appreciation night and around four or five groups of harmonica enthusiasts performed a few pieces, including the team from my niece's primary school. Apparently, the concert was organized by the Harmonica Aficionados Society, and I think because of the fact that its headquarters is located in Chinatown, a significant majority of these so-called aficionados are actually cina old men; the sort you'd see hanging out at Chinatown coffeshops drinking beer with their buddies at all times of the day. Of course, I'm just (slightly) exaggerating here but it did turn out to be a make-shift chinese cultural night, replete with a master-of-ceremonies who spoke halting english with a thick native-Chinaman accent. Moreover, almost two-thirds of the repertoire performed were Chinese symphonic classics! With some audience members feeling free to chitchat throughout the concert as if they were watching television at home, and some taking toilet breaks regularly like it's nobody's business, you could say that I didnt really have an enjoyable evening. Mildly interesting perhaps but definitely not enjoyable...

Later on in the night, met up with some of the usual suspects for a late-night out but it somehow left me with an unpleasant aftertaste... dont know why, though.
