I am totally beat today! Had previously planned to go for a swim in the evening just now but after my tuition kid cancelled on me (perhaps he chickened out at the thought of continuing with algebra?), I decided that I'd be better off at home taking a rest...
But yesterday was loads of fun though~! In the early afternoon, Zal & I rushed down to the K-Box at jurong east to use up my free karaoke voucher (courtesy of singnet) which was only valid in the month of june. I think it's a wonderful feeling to indulge yourself in an activity that under normal circumstances, would be considered to be entirely fruitless & needlessly extravagant. Then again, being your typical kiasu singaporean, I could'nt resist a free karaoke session and I must say, it was a blast~!
Zal & I probably hit enough wrong notes between us to put even the illustrious William Hung to shame, but on the bright side, I think I finally overcame my phobia of holding onto a microphone (don't laugh!). Nevertheless, like all freebies, there were some downers; firstly, their set-lunch was some tacky-looking nasi-lemak (the kind you can buy from street vendors for two dollars) and the sambal was soooo spicy~! AND, though songs were available in SIX different languages (Mandarin, Cantonese, Hokkien, English, Korean & Japanese), I was very disappointed (and pissed off) to learn that MALAY was not one of them. Seriously, they should have indicated that they only offer FOUR languages and two dialects. Anyway, the peculiar thing was, even the remote control was labelled in Mandarin! Thank god the waiter who attended to us was patient & helpful enough to offer translations whenever we got too blur. :p
After three hours of non-stop crooning, singing, or simply just shouting, we had our first up close and personal look of the Jurong Regional Library. It's certainly a much more nifty place now; with post-modern glass walls, sparse furnishings and well-spaced shelves, it almost seems like an irresistible beacon for mall-crawling teens and tweens. I was ecstatic to find a couple of X-Men trade paperbacks; compilations of some very old but very exciting x-men comics!! (yes, I've been crazy about the x-men waaaayy before they appeared in the movies~) On the whole though, I kinda miss the old Jurong East Library; it was definitely a warmer & cosier place back then. I remember how once or twice a month, my father would send me to the library (when he wasn't too tired from work) in the evening so that I could return my storybooks & borrow some new ones. I think I was only twelve or thirteen back then and I remembered how, finding a good book was like discovering an amazing world of possibilities. Speaking of memories...
Last year in December, I read one of those horoscope books which make predictions for the whole year instead of just a day or a week, and it stated that things will start looking up for me in July. Well, I've never been one who believes in astrology, though I admit that it IS lotsa fun to read about one's supposed fate & realize how "accurate" it is. In my honest opinion, horoscopes are just a bunch of beautifully crafted generalities with the intended purpose of assisting someone with low self-esteem cope better with the travails of everyday life. Yet, this rather cynical perception is not entirely true about what I feel... While I am adamant not to believe in the aforesaid prediction, I'm aware that in the depths of my heart, I'm fervently hoping that it is true.
*Haiz* I'm really such a closet romantic... ;p
