There is always a certain level of heightened expectancy when one is watching an M. Night Shyamalan movie. Afterall, this is the same director who brought us The Sixth Sense and Unbreakable. Then again, he also brought to us Signs :p

Well anyway, most people found Shyamalan's latest suspense-flick to be a tad too disappointing for their tastes but I thought it was kinda cool. For one thing, I really liked the way the plot and story unfolded just as if one was reading a novel. Morever, the cast of A-list talents are surely worth evry cent of your ticket price alone; Adrien Brody, Joaquin Phoenix, William Hurt and Sigourney Weaver are the more familiar marquee names here but some of the supporting actors were splendidly good too, especially Bryce Dallas Howard as the blind but spunky head-chief's daughter. Although half-the-time, you keep wondering why the characters are referring to something in the passive voice, you can't help but be drawn into the seeming intrigue of the unfolding (and amorphous) events.

It is rather sad that the so-called "Those we do not speak of" turned out to be quite laughable by movie's end and some may even think that the suspenseful parts werent worth the "suspense" afterall. However, Shyamalan deserves credit for successfully developing a credible "mood" piece (or at least for the first half anyway) and he must have had his tongue firmly in-cheek when he made the ending. At any rate, this is not a regrettable watch to me, at least, but that's perhaps because I have such a peculiar sense of humor.. lol.

my ratings --- 3.6/5 stars!
