from eleven to Twelve...

Just as I had predicted in an earlier entry, the judges have chosen one more contestant, to join the ranks of SgIdol finalists. I mean, seriously, whoever heard of ELEVEN finalists anyway? Such a weird number...

In a peculiar turn of events, rocker-beng Sylvester came out with the highest number of votes tonight despite clearly being the dark horse in the competition. While I found his diction much, much better than previously, there was still plenty of room for improvement (and I don't mean this as a compliment..). On the whole though, it was an unexpectedly good rendition of the classic Firehouse hit, When I Look Into Your Eyes (and shame on Gurmit for not getting the title right~!!); the only aggravating factor was his undeniably beng diction which, I felt, had too much cina-pop overtones to be of worthy SgIdol material. And he looks like a drenched puppy with his hair like that. I hope mediacorp's hairstylists would do something about it by next week~ LOL

Single mom Maia's Crazy In Love was like a come-back after last week's sugary and yawn-inducing Remember Me This Way but seriously, I think her voice has no definite X-factor (unlike Nana's or Shirin's distinctive DIva vocals...). Appearance-wise however, Maia does have an undeniable star presence and perhaps this is in her favor especially if Ken Lim decides to market her in the more profitable mandarin-speaking recording world... Okie, ok -- I admit it! ~ her voice not THAT bad lah; just a leetle too carbon-copy for my tastes...

Beverly, who performed an energetic Ain't Nobody, is the other judges' pick (besides Maia) to make it through. She was clearly one of the more impressive ones tonight... and she has such a remarkable resemblance to Nuraliza Osman! Or is it just my over-active imagination again.. ???

I know that we cant all be winners, but it's very disturbing to know that a few undeserving contestants emerged as finalists while talented singers/performers like Nana and Shirin have to go away empty-handed from the competition. Oh well... Bytheway, it's really funny that I am reviewing SgIdol this week in my bloggy at all, considering the fact that I actually missed the performance show just now. Only managed to catch the results over tvmobile lah.. SIan.
