It's the second episode of singapore's version of the hugely successful talent show (which first originated as Pop Idol in the UK), and I'm still not impressed by the "plethora" (puts on most cynical tone here) of so-called talents which the show has to offer.
While last week, I felt that the trio of finalists (a.k.a David, Olinda & Jeassea) were certainly the most deserving of the lot, this week however, I wasnt convinced that Singapore had chosen the best singers. Furthermore, I'm quite perplexed by the judges' comments, which often do not smack of originality and are thus, rather forgettable. More often than not, I do not agree with what DIck/Florence/Douglas/Ken has to say... But of course, Dick Lee's witty (but affected) criticisms can be rather entertaining though sometimes, they do tend to get on my nerves...
well anywayz, the top three, in random order, are:
1) Daphne KooI thought that Daphne was certainly one of the better singers tonight although her I Will Survive could still be improved upon. Christopher was kinda cute and he did select a good song for his otherwise, only above-average voice. Candice... Yucks! Now, how did she get there??? Okie.. she wasnt That bad actually but I thought Shirin had better and stronger vocals; and I think it's not easy to sing with those braces on! hehehe...
2) Christopher Michael Lee
3) Candice Foo
Sylvester looked like a salah/scary rocker-ahbeng hybrid but he did sound pleasant enuff, though minus the power and edge which make rock singers appealing. Big mama Joice had very unsteady vocals but two thumbs up for her cheery disposition... Nathaniel Lee does look like idol-material but what a tragedy that he doesnt sound the part. I didnt see how Nelson Tan got such favorable comments frm the judges when his vocals were only so-so (and there were some high parts which made me wince). Plus, his "love hurts" tagline is just sooooooo icky. Duh~ It's weird that the judges lambasted Haizad when his rendition of What a Wonderful World, in my honest opinion, was an almost exact replica of Guy Sebastian's version. When one of them said "you didnt perform it the way it's supposed to...", I was like... havent they heard of Guy's version at all??? And they call themselves music professionals?? BAH~! Well, on the downside, haizad's singing was mostly nasal anyway, and his thick malay accent was such a turn-off!
I'm not sure if I covered everyone who performed tonight but even if I didnt, I can't be bothered to. Seriously, I'd rather watch Malaysian Idol and those of you who has seen it, will probably agree with me... For those of you who havent caught it yet, Go and watch it~!! :p
PS: Am I the only person around here who feels that Gurmit Singh's excessive foundation is very disturbing... ??? Perhaps they (i.e. the producers) should have used someone younger to host the show... maybe someone with more hair on his head??? LOL
