19 yr-old Candice Foo (remember her? the girl who didnt do "justice" to Alicia Keys' If I Ain't Got You, in the words of Florence Lian..?) backed out from Singapore Idol recently due to "personal reasons" albeit the fact that she had opted to drop her polytechnic studies in order to "pursue her idol dreams"... Its funny how some people thought that she's one of the "better" ones amongst the finalists; All I can say is, her withdrawal from the competition is no big loss (muaahhaha..).
Jessea Thydor, clearly a hot fave amongst the judges (and yours truly was soooo looking forward to see more of her on SI~!) had been eliminated, along with the "surprise" wildcard choice, Beverly Morata. Although I'm not so inclined to support the latter (there's something a leetle aggravating about her), I have to concede that both are undeniable talents in their own right and definitely much MUCH better than a handful of those who stayed behind in the competition *hint*hint*. However, for someone who has never voted at all for any of the contestants, I guess I shouldnt be griping too much over such unexpected injustices.
Malaysian Idol is drawing to a close soon. The only guy left in the competition, Vic, had been eliminated recently after the top 3 showdown, leaving behind powerhouse diva Jac (who reminds me of an edgier Latoya London) and judges' favorite, Dina. In my honest opinion, Jac is the obvious choice to win the idol crown; despite whatever the judges have to say about her incompatibility to sing in malay, I feel that her singing is always near flawless and I am still haunted (in a positive way, of course) by her rendition of Tunggu Sekejap from the P. Ramlee themed week of the competition. Moreover, it's strange that Dina never gets picked on for her less-than-perfect english enunciation... Anywayz, I was abit surprised that she got thru to the finals because I thought that Vic's performances were much better. Whatever the case, I'm certain that next week's show will be a tight battle between the two; I can't wait!!
On another note, the thought of having someone like Christopher Lee or Jerry Ong represent Singapore on the World Idol stage is seriously, a frightening prospect... I've seen the Indonesian Idol winner, Joy, in action and she not only resembles Indon ballad queen, Ruth Sahanaya, she sounds like her too~! In comparison, judging from the less than spectacular, ragtag bunch of finalists we have here in Singapore, I have this fear that our Asian neighbours are already casting disparaging remarks about our Idol competition...
I'm also more than a little miffed that SI sound/video clips are not available on the net and the official website is not as updated as it should be. With such lacklustre online support, how am I then, supposed to take SI seriously??? ;p
