Sg Idol: RnB/Soul week

FinallY~! It's down to the final five and the contestants got to perform two songs each; two songs to prove their idol-worthiness! Surprisingly, this show is growing on me and I think it's because because 1) the crappy singers have all been eliminated. 2) All those left in the show are pretty likeable in one way or another. 3) heck, I'm just an Idol fan! LOL~
First Set

Taufik Batisah's Superstition was as smooth as whipped cream and unlike in previous weeks, I could actually hear the lyrics, every single word, clear as crystal! (Initially, I thought Taufik's performance wasn't anything really spectacular but after the first round of performances were over, I realised that he was the best in terms of showmanship and vocals.) Daphne Khoo's dressing was abit toned down today (not much flesh-baring as per usual) but it's a good thing because I think she was veering abit toward child-pornography category with all those chest-baring outfits the mediacorp stylists made her wear ;p On a more relevant note, despite whatever negative criticisms the judges had for her, I genuinely liked her rendition of You Gotta Be as it was the perfect song to demonstrate her unique vocal tone.

Sylvester Sim didn't fare too well with his version of All-4-One's hit, I Swear. His strong, Cina-accented english seemed much emphasized here and it turned out to be a complete turn-off; moreover, his dressing for the song was totally salah. What a let-down~! :( Leandra Veronica Rasiah lost some points too, with her rather weak and uninspired rendition of Ain't No Mountain High Enough. Seriously, this song is most effective when belted out by the singer and Leandra simply does not have the vocal chops required for this kind of feat. Olinda Cho however, managed to bring back some spark to the show with an impressive interpretation of Karen White's Superwoman, sans chorus. In my honest opinion, she was barely audible on her low notes but fortunately, she managed to power up, Olinda-style, by the second half of the song.
Second Set

Once again, Taufik set a rather high benchmark with Let's Stay Together as his second song. I was awestruck by how comfortable he was sitting down while singing and amazed that he could still reach those high notes with relative ease. Clearly, this week is his~! On the other hand, Daphne's You Are My Angel was an utter mess... it was definitely the wrong song choice for her. While RnB is evidently NOT Sylvester's forte, I thought that his Rock Your Body had a certain charm about it. I know you guys may think I'm crazy but I liked it! haha~

If in her previous performance, Leandra was abit of a disappointment, she proved that she was back in the game with a superb rendition of Alicia Keys' Fallin'. Nevertheless, I felt that there wasnt enough soul in her delivery and her voice is still abit too rough around the edges to be truly effective... I wasnt really interested in Olinda's second song choice of Rescue Me but it was definitely a splendid way to close to show~!! ;p

So who's goin to be voted out this week?? I've got no bloody idea... ;)
