Cast as the slightly overweight singleton on a quest for true love, Zellweger is effortlessly cute and lovable without making even the most fastidious audience member (i.e. like myself) cringe in disgust. Hugh Grant and Colin Firth reprise their roles as Bridget's love interests but sadly, I feel that their characters have been given less depth than from when we last saw them in the first movie. Both aforesaid actors, however, are seasoned performers in their own right and successfully pulled off their roles with great aplomb.
Unfortunately, the script, this time round, is abit weak and predictable, and some of the plot-twists seem too far-fetched to be really funny; the "large-panties" gag, for instance, gets a little tiresome after awhile. Thankfully, Grant, Firth and Zellweger have great onscreen chemistry and impeccable comic timing, thus making up for any deficiencies in script or otherwise. Honestly, I couldnt think of anyone else who could make Bridget so endearing as Zellweger had; she's like a little kitten that you would just love to bring home and cuddle. On the whole, BJD: Edge Of Reason may have lost the novelty of the original, but it is still an adequately enjoyable watch.
