Gimme Retro Anytime...

Back in 1993, Tasmin Archer sang of sleeping satellites, moonlit nights and dreams that died. In retrospect, even while I (as a youth still in my early teens) was humming along to its catchy chorus, I wasn't able to fully grasp the essence of the song's lyrics...
Did we fly to the moon too soon?
Did we squander the chance?
In the rush of the race
The reason we chase is lost in romance
and still we try to justify the waste
for a taste of man's greatest adventure.

(chorus)
I blame you for the moonlit sky
and the dream that died
with the eagle's flight.
I blame you for the moonlit nights
when I wonder why are the seas still dry?
Don't blame this sleeping satellite...

Have we lost what it takes to advance?
Have we peaked too soon?
If the world is so great
then why does it scream under a blue moon?
We wonder why if the earth's sacrificed
for the price of its greatest treasure.

And when we shoot for the stars
what a giant step,
Have we got what it takes
to carry the weight of this concept?
Or pass it by
like a shot in the dark
miss the mark, with a sense of adventure...
Pop ditties nowadays seem to have lost the fresh simplicity of the songs which populated the airwaves when I was a teenager. Or perhaps it's just my wishful thinking... and merely a desire for me to go back to those old days when life was still innocent and did not seem so cruel... HOWEVER, I was such a stupid geek in secondary school; honestly, I would never dream of re-living those days again~! LOL
