kerinduan

After much pondering, I've decided to put up Sheila Majid's Kerinduan because a) I've always had a penchant for Sheila Majid's music and this song is no exception, and b) the title of this particular song is also a pun on my name -- Kerin-DUAN. Geddit??? LOL. I am, indeed, becoming such a lame-ass. Add that to lazy-ass, selfish-ass, idiotic-ass, clumsy-ass... and then presto~ I'm a multi-faceted ass-guy!!! Jeng-jeng-jeng~ (insert corny-but-emotionally-stimulating superhero theme song here).

ANYhow, I was in town yesterday evening and around ten-ish, after a spot of sundae at Lucky Plaza's MacDonald's (which by the way, has a pretty cool interior but the service sucks~!), my friend and I decided to sit down awhile on one of the stone benches in front of Tangs so that he could enjoy his ciggie (Sorry sikit eh.. I don't smoke! If somebody else wants to BBQ his/her lungs, that's his/her problem!). While we were in the midst of an animated discussion, a shifty looking malay man, in his mid-thirties, suddenly sat down beside me, despite there being plenty of space on the other bench where my friend was... For that matter, there were other empty benches nearby. What exactly were the intentions of this particular stranger?? Was he going to whip out a donation coupon?? Was he a pimp??? A con-artist???

Yes, I had these negative suspicions running through my mind, but isn't that only natural for a typical kiasu Singaporean, who is a distrustful and selfish ass to boot??? Well, after a moment of uncomfortable silence, as my friend and I weighed the nobility of the stranger's purpose, he began to speak, a tad haltingly...

Stranger: "Adik boleh tolong Abang tak...?" (hesitantly and nervously)

OK -- FUCk that. I'm no good at telling stories. The gist of the matter: he was a Johor Bahru-ian, a first-timer in Singapore, and needed assistance (desperately!) as to the whereabouts of a certain MRT station, which was where his Singaporean friend was going to pick him up later on in the night. Apparently, he couldn't make outgoing calls on his handphone (it doesnt work outside Malaysia, I suppose) and had trouble finding a payphone in Orchard Road (no surprise here), and thus, had no means of contacting this friend of his in order to re-affirm their rendezvous.

All at once, I empathised with his plight and made the call for him using my handphone, seeing how unfamiliar he was with the MRT system... Even managed to scribble some directions on a slip of paper. My only complaint? -- That I had to carry out the whole conversation in my awkward, and incompetent Malay~!!! Quite ashamed of myself really, but in retrospect, I don't think it was THAT shabby afterall~

So what is the moral of the story?? That although our protective parents forbid us from talking to strangers, we should learn to abstain from leaping to unwarranted conclusions and NOT be too afraid of the unfamiliar. AND always, always, offer hospitality and assistance to those in need of it ;)

If you've noticed, nights nowadays are certainly much cooler than the humid ones we experienced a couple of weeks ago. Most probably, it's due to the heavy rainfall we've been getting almost every other day... Personally, I like this kind of weather because it's superb for reminiscing. Hmmmmm...

Kerinduan (music/lyrics by Tohpati/Joel Achmad)

Dulu pernah aku bersumpah
Slalu setia jika ku mencinta
Masih melekat rasa itu
Saat cintamu datang padaku
Semua terwujud saat kau singgah
Panasi cinta untuk setia merindu

Kerinduan -- Tak akan menghilang
Kan selalu kurasa, tak mampu ku menghindar
Kau berikan apa yang ku pinta
Kau mengikat ku dalam cinta, temaniku dalam setia

Aku tak pernah mengharapkan
Cinta lain datang membelaiku
Aku dapat slalu bertahan
Menahan cintamu di sukmaku
Kehadiranmu basuh jiwaku
Engkau sulutkan api cinta diriku
