Mr & Mrs Smith

Seriously, I was expecting Mr & Mrs Smith to suck big time but fortunately (or perhaps, unfortunately?) it didn't. Or not much anyway.

Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt play a unhappily married couple who literally try to kill each other when they learn that they are both assasins for hire, albeit for rival agencies. Since this isn't a film heavy on drama, Jolie and Pitt acquit themselves incredibly well as action-superstars and physically, they look so perfect together, you can't help thinking this is a match made in heaven.

However, this is one of those movies where everything -- be it plot, storyline, or special effects -- hinges upon the chemistry of the lead actors in order for the film to work effectively. Honestly speaking, the storyline is abit shoddy, there is no distinct villainous character and the action sequences have all been seen, and done even better, in some other movies. Furthermore, the ending, which involved a draggy half-hour shootout in a secluded mall with what seemed like a whole battalion of masked troops, is more like a cop-out to me; the loose ends of the story never actually get resolved.

Clearly, Jolie and Pitt are physically in tune to each other as exemplified by their sizzling hot (but ludicrous) make-out scene; nevertheless, it is dubious whether they're compatible as actors. Jolie is definitely the better actor as she managed to make the dilemma of having to annihilate someone she loves rather believable (She was an Oscar winner, afterall!). Pitt's acting, on the other hand, was superficial and merely adequate for a no-brainer film like this one. Then again, that's probably a flaw of the script... ;p

In essence, Mr & Mrs Smith is a date-movie masquerading as an action-thriller, but you wouldn't notice anyway cuz' you'll be too busy trying to figure out if Jolie's lips are natural or silicone-enhanced (or perhaps I'm the only lame-ass who thinks so???). LOL~!

my ratings ---- 3.2/5 Stars!
