Gong gong!

When I first heard those words, I thought it was a form of vulgarity or an example of an onomatopoeia (ie. Anjing itu sedang bergong-gong.. etc etc). But then, since the word/phrase was printed on one of the pages of a food menu with a picture of a kind of shell fish above it, I reasoned that something with such a name would taste pretty disgusting.

On the contrary, siput gong-gong wasn't too bad afterall and I have to thank an old friend for introducing me to the dish during our dinner at Lau Pa Sat food center a couple of evenings ago. She's a very nice person and everything but she has one habit that I don't really like -- her inclination to buy food at a moment's whim. Asalkan rasa macam nak makan, teros nak order. Tak fikir langsung kalau makanan yang telah di-order boleh dihabiskan atau tidak...

Eventually, when all the ordered food had been served, she ended up eating only slightly more than half of her share. So wasteful~! And she still had the cheek to buy dessert... which, unsurprisingly, she could hardly finish too. Seriously, I cannot understand some girls!! :p

But maybe it's just me; I loathe wastage especially where food is concerned. Blame it on my upbringing but I was made to believe that rice grains will actually weep if we leave them uneaten on our plates (quite a silly notion when I think about it now). Hmmm.. With that said, the thought of half a plate of siput gong-gong crying is rather comical. And scary too, come to think of it...
