And why do I say so?? Because I really, really thought that the fasting month starts today (i.e. Tuesday, 4th October). In fact, I've already marked down 1st Ramadhan as October 4th on my calenders (the ones on my desk and in my pc) and have even, since last weekend, mentally psyched myself to wake up early this morn for sahur.
Imagine my astonishment when I overheard via the telly from the living room (while simultaneously stoning most unproductively on my bed) last night, the Mufti's voice intoning with utmost gravity that puasa will only commence on wednesday... Of course, that was not such a bad thing afterall because I got to sleep a little longer this morning. However, the thought of having to wake up in the wee hours of the morn for the next four weeks or so is making me feel quite lethargic already.. HEhehe (kes dasar pemalas lah... =p )
[ Curiously, although selenger is a slang used by malays for a few generations by now, it is a word which could not be found in any kamus or formal dictionary. In my honest opinion, such malay slang-words should be compiled and included into regular kamus-kamus by those learned scholars/linguists in-charge (what exactly these people are called eludes me at the moment..). If the Americans/British can include colloquial English words into established and respected dictionaries (think Webster and Oxford), I don't see why Kamus Dewan cannot have entries like kopek, selenger or bachin (and HOW exactly are these words spelt anyway???) ]
Anyhow, while on the subject of selenger-ism -- I always try to come across as someone cool, collected and smart but there are many atime when I'm embarrassingly idiotic. For instance, I have this bad habit of tripping over things when I'm outside by myself or otherwise and this occurs with greater frequency when I'm wearing shoes or sneakers. That's probably one reason why I'd rather get around in sandals or slippers... Moreover, I sometimes commit the silliest mistakes -- Case in point, this afternoon; I waited for bus 169 outside my camp for a full twenty minutes before realizing that I was on the wrong side of the road! Then, I was too paiseh to cross over immediately so I made sure the bustop was clear of people first before crossing to the opposite stop... =p
I guess selenger moments abound for everyone (nobody's perfect, rite?) but it would be extremely nice if they occur only once in a blue moon instead of every other day...
PS: May all my dearest Muslim readers, friends and acquaintances have a jolly good Ramadhan ahead~! Selamat Berpuasa~! ;-)
