cookies, cookies...

I've always wanted to try my hand at baking, cooking etc, but had the general impression that such activities require an alert mind, overly sensitive tastebuds and an acute sense of smell. Where attentiveness is concerned, I'm notorious for being unfocused and indecisive -- friends who frequently accompany me on my shopping expeditions may attest to this particular flaw of mine!

Just the other day however, Asfa told me that baking cookies is relatively easy -- it's just a matter of following the instructions in the cookbook. Being a science student all my life, I'm all too familiar with obeying procedure and protocol (i.e. during laboratory assignments), and thus, after much consideration, I finally decided to give it a go...

Actually, I'm not too fond of chocolatey stuff but my mom insisted that any other type of cookies will not "laku". Under her watchful eye (and my sis offered a number of pointers along the way) I managed to bake a few batches of cookies with little mishap.

Nevertheless, I realised that sometimes, you do have to veer away abit from the book. I learnt this the hard way when one batch of my choco-rice shortbread cookies became a tad burnt due to my strict adherence to the twenty-five-minute-in-the-oven piece of instruction. Obviously, baking requires a little common-sense improvisation.. something which I'm sorely lacking! LOL
