- I get to see the perpetually talented Natalie Portman being her perpetually gorgeous self -- even when bald-headed!
- The film is based on a comic-book/graphic novel. I'm a huge fan of comic-culture.
- Has a screenplay by the Wachowski Brothers, the same geniuses behind the Matrix trilogy (although, I must admit, that the last Matrix film was a little bit dodgy...)
- Visually, is a cross between Sin City's dark, gothic hues and the Matrix's futuristic edginess.
- Get to hear the enigmatic Hugo Weaving spout Shakespeare and throw deadly daggers in artistic slow-mo~!
- And Natalie Portman sports a a sexy British accent! Cool!
I'm certain that even my (ex) American Film Studies professor would grudgingly admit that this is one heck-of-a movie. It makes me wonder though, why Alan Moore (who originally created the characters and wrote the comic) refused to formally "acknowledge" the Wachowski Brothers' amazing interpretation of his work.
Still, political associations and other controversies aside, V For Vendetta is actually quite a fun watch and is indeed, in the words of a professional film critic, one of the first, truly memorable films of 2006.
my ratings ---- 4/5 stars~!!!
