all things Idol

I'm very sorry to say that I have ZERO interest in the current season of Singapore Idol. It's not as if the show is bereft of true talent; but simply because talent is wasted on the show. Take for instance, the way the judges picked their top 24 finalists. Some of them couldn't carry a tune to save their lives; which made me wonder, was there really a shortage of singers during the auditions?? I don't suppose so... Out of the thousands who auditioned, surely, there were more than a dozen who were much, much better singers than that wat-zis-name actor from past-sitcom Living With Lydia?

The majority of Sg-idol audiences, themselves, cannot recoqnize talent when it is right under their noses, choosing instead to flood the voting-lines of the baby-faced contestants with the least singing potential. In my honest opinion, only three female contestants amongst the top 12 had any credibility as competitors (i.e. Gayle Nerva, Rahimah Rahim and Mathilda D'Silva) but they had all been eliminated from the show. Fortunately, their male counterparts fared slightly better. Jay Lim was actually pretty decent and that made his departure even more tragic. Now I'm hoping that the two most deserving contestants (the two whom I believe could wear the SgIdol crown most convincingly); namely Hady Mirza and Jonathan Leong, manage to get to the top 3 spots, at the very least.

What with Jacintha muttering incomprehensibly and looking as dazed as a lost rabbit most of the time, and Ken Lim's outrageous (and baseless) remarks, watching Singapore Idol is a cringe-worthy experience which I'm not too hard-pressed to miss. And have I mentioned Gurmit's bad habit of flubbing his lines and his efforts to appear hip and cool, which are to no avail???

With that said, good luck to Hady Mirza. I can't believe that my older sis thought that he was "sumbang" on Sheila Majid's Lagenda. Thank God she's not one of the judges!!! LOL
