The one on the left is my old frames but with new lenses while the green one on the right is my (completely) new pair of glasses.

I became potek (the politically correct term is myopic, I believe) very early during my secondary One days, but I never liked wearing my glasses; somehow, I've always thought that they made me look more geeky and square than I already was and this sentiment was echoed by my siblings and friends, further making me resent the need to wear them. However, my reading habits were pretty atrocious and my eyesight worsened considerably each year until it reached around 400plus degrees by the time I was in sec 4.

It was that same year, however, that I discovered and learnt how to use contact lenses -- it was like nothing was impeding my vision anymore; my eyes were no longer peering through vision-restricting rectangular frames. I sometimes even forgot that I was ever myopic. Nevertheless, my newfound liberty was rather short-lived; when I enlisted into National Service after JC, I depended once again on my glasses more out of convenience than anything else. Back then, I had a pair of black plastic frames which gained me the moniker "Mickey Mouse" amongst less-than-kind army superiors. Looking back on old photos however, I must admit that my little stick-out ears coupled with my shaven head did make me look rather mousy... =p PLUS, I Was (and AM) rather vertically challenged I suppose, so...

Well anyway, ever since I completed NS, I had chucked my glasses aside and depended solely on my contacts. As far as I can remember, I haven't bought a new pair of the former at all within the last five years or so! For those who find the thought of poking a piece of flimsy plastic onto their eyeball disgusting and unbearable, it isn't all that bad actually. After awhile, you'll forget that it is even there!

While it seems that I've made quite a splurge on glasses alone, I think (and hope) that it will be a good investment.

So what's the whole point of this entry?? It's just an excuse to post that pic of my glasses lah and to avoid those pangs of quilt I normally get when I post an entry with very little words (like in previous), I thought a brief recollection of my history of short-sightedness would be appropriate.

I think this is the part when you'll mumble, "Whatever, Duan!" =)
